About RCCG Winnipeg

Our History

RCCG Winnipeg first began at 2791 Pembina Hwy (i.e. where Bank of Montreal Fort Richmond branch is currently located). In 2002 the church relocated from 2791 Pembina Hwy to 2989 Pembina Hwy at the request of the property owner of 2791 Pembina Hwy. After this move, the property at 2791 Pembina Hwy was leased to a night club house called twilight zone; Pastor Joseph Okunnu and the other members of the church confessed that the building would rather be called Holy Ghost zone.

The Church began to grow and expand while at 2989 Pembina Hwy, so the church made its third move to 50 Barnes street Winnipeg, in January 2003. The building was rented from the World Wide Bible Church. RCCG Winnipeg moved when World Wide church started Sunday morning service, which would have left us with the evening service. In October 2003, the church was once again relocated to its original place of worship 2791 Pembina hwy. In April 2005, the church moved to 51 Richfield Avenue, renting the building from Bible Church of God. Little did the church know that this was just the first half in the glorious journey that God would bring them through. Afterwards, the Lord provided a property of 11.5 acres which has both residential and church space on 2735 St. Mary's Road.

While renovation was going on in the building at 2735 St. Mary's Road, the church rented the space of a Chinese restaurant on St. Mary's Road. While at this location a few church members, the pastor, and his family would gather, pray, remove all the idols and set up chairs for the large congregation. This lasted for two Sundays.

On leaving the Chinese restaurant, the church moved down to Canaan Land. While renovating the new auditorium, members would typically wear smart cloths (such as Jeans, T-Shirts, etc) to church, because after the church service, there was work to be done. The men would pack up the chairs, and clear out the compound, while the women would mop up the dust in the church (there was no carpet yet), and clean the mission house. So after much faith and many moves, God finally brought the members of RCCG Winnipeg to their current location (Canaan Land). God is good!
